WHO WE ARE
The Huerfano County Historical is a non-profit organization financed through
grants, donations, membership fees and fund raising activities utilizing the
support and enthusiasm of its members, staff and volunteer board.
MISSION STATEMENT
The stated purpose of the Huerfano County Historical Society is to preserve
and communicate the history of Huerfano County in particular and the adjacent
areas.

WHAT WE DO
The Huerfano County Historical Society operates two museums in Huerfano County, the Francisco Fort Museum in LaVeta, Colorado and the Walsenburg Mining Museum in Walsenburg, Colorado.
Both Museums are on the National Register of Historic Buildings and contain numerous historic displays and artifacts of their era.
A small Gift Shop is maintained within each facility. For additional information on each
Museum, please click on the appropriate link above.
WHERE WE ARE LOCATED
Walsenburg and LaVeta are nestled at the foot of the Spanish Peaks in
Southern Colorado, located off of I-25 about one hour south of Pueblo,
CO or one hour north of Raton, NM.
The Mining Museum is located in Walsenburg at 5th and Main just behind the Huerfano County Court House.
The Francisco Fort Museum is located in LaVeta at Main and Francisco.
To reach LaVeta, drive west from Walsenburg 12 miles to the Hwy 12 junction.
Take Hwy 12 south for 5 miles to LaVeta's Main Street.
